I'm not fooling anyone. I live in California. I know what its like to be price gouged for everything cost of living wise. I am very lucky to be able to afford the lifestyle. I would have no problem paying a 10-15% premium for a product made here, that is supported here, and helps develop my community.
Your community? You are a factory worker and make $7/hr?
These comments are so unrealistic. NIMBY ought to be the new nickname for the USA.

read this somewhere- not sure if it has been posted here yet. Seems like the MBP at the end of the banner has a different (thinner) speaker design than both the current MBP 15' & 17'
Here are some images of the banner, MBP 15 & 17
it's just the refraction from the glass at that angle...
there are some straight-on photos (http://flickr.com/photos/66488342@N00/206009315/in/set-72157594223273881/) that confirm it's the same.
apple isnt going to give away anything with this banner that can be seen by the general public.

Remember, it's still just a rumor.
I will be amazed if it is tomorrow and relieved if it is Tuesday 16th.
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

Is it just me, or a 24" iMac would've been nice to show on stage with whatever that "Showtime" thing might be? That would, at least, have made some sense to at least start by showing that.
Which means the september 12th presentation must be really packed with new stuff if they couldn't even announce the 24" iMac at that event. They've also bumped the CPUs on the Mac mini today, so that makes two updates on the same day too.
It's also weird to see new releases on a wednesday...
...why do people keep thinking it's so weird?
It was Labor Day on Monday. Apple ALWAYS has Wednesday updates on holiday-weeks.
Although if you're not from the U.S....I could see why it would be weird...

Sigh, I dont like the way Apple configure models to get you to spend more to get features that should be standard.
512Mb RAM and a Combo Drive which probably costs them 50p

My mom got her iphone last year. She loves it so much she's been totally into apple stuff (bought herself an ipod touch when it came out - don't ask me when she already has an iphone - and even bought me the new nano).
She says she's probably going to buy a Mac next time (and she used to snub the mac when I was a kid).

There's a lot of speculation in that Wikipedia article and very few citations of credible sources.
And then there's this...
Well, there's this (http://www.snopes.com/rumors/radio.htm). And this quote: "Company president John Hogan told the Atlanta Constitution that the list was merely a suggestion, 'never a policy or a directive.'" from here (http://www.lipmagazine.org/articles/featwishnia_142.shtml). Anyway, whatever.

I agree. This seems a risky way to deal with a hardware defect. My first macbook had RSS, and apple exchanged it for a new one with me. If this one started doing it I'd be very worried - firmware update or no.
Yup. The way to properly handle the problem is to replace the MoBo's. I don't want to start a "this update will make your laptop overheat" rumor, but I'm pretty certain that they are trying to bypass the root defect.

yes I do ... and I am 100% in support ... I would be more than willing to pay more taxes if Canada increased our spending to bring us more on par with the US.
How can that possibly be justified? What is the threat that this budget is confronting?

Wrong again. I am focusing on Africans because that's the topic you created to discuss. Moving the goalposts again.
No one is moving the goal posts, you're not answering my questions. I'm just comparing to prove a point. No one else is whining about past discrimination except blacks. Everyone was discriminated at some point. They've all moved past it.
My primary basis for debate is fact. Yours is uncited assertion, accusation and "common knowledge" without any basis in fact. You are hiding behind weasel-words.
Nein. What uncited assertion? I provided you with facts and statistics. You just don't seem to like them and don't want to face the facts. But that's ok.
Whereas you'd prefer to prattle on about trailer parks...in the US. Fine, let's talk other countries - but what on earth is a racial history? I challenge you to find a single country with a significant black population that has no history of prejudice.
Prattle on about trailer parks? Yeah because you made the assertion that poor white areas are as dangerous as poor black areas. Which is BS. Why should i find a country without a history of racial prejudice? Again, all the other races have moved past it except blacks. Beside the fact, many blacks in the UK are immigrants and their ancestors didn't even deal with racial prejudice in the UK. So figure that one out.

I realize that some people want X, Y, Z now! For myself, I can wait for new hardwareprobably until iPhone 6 (or 5 if the next one is 4G)as I like to get several years of use out of it. Heck, I just decommissioned my iBook G4 last year. What Im excited to see is what iOS 5 will bring. This is how Apple will have dominance over Android phones.
As for waiting ~ 3 more months, while Im not a blind Apple lap dog, I have a certain amount of faith that they know what theyre doing. I think that Steve, the master of shrewd and manipulation, has taught his disciples well.

people are always worried about "save the trees..." and "there's too much over-population..." Have u ever flown over this country? there's thousands of acres of nothingness. i'm confused.
I guess you are at that. If you fly over my country, Australia, you'll see huge deserts for thousands of kilometers and not much population. That's the ecology for most of Australia, save the East coast. What population Australia can sustain has long been hotly disputed. But that's not the point. You fly over the Arabian deserts or Siberia in Russina, you won't see a lot of vegetation or people either. Not everywhere is suitable for people, livestock or agriculture. America has a lot of different climates and ecosystems too, including vast deserts. But some of those wide open spaces used to be covered in forest, remember. It's the deforestation of the fertile areas, which are also ideal for agriculture and populations, which is a worry. None more so than the Amazon or Malaysia.
Since the dawn of the PC era, they predicted that computers would cut our use of paper drastically, since we would have little need of it. The reality is vastly different. Our consumption doubled in short order with the advent of the affordable printer. We are far more prone to wasting paper than ever; a tiny typo, or a smudge on the page? Reprint the entire 50-page report. Photocopiers has thousands of students copying entire sets of books from the library. It's easy, convenient and cheap. Rainforest timber is what makes it cheap, alas. iPods and an iTunes Store with eBook functionality, however popular, even if it starts a huge fad in other brands as well, such as Sony's offerings, won't make much of a difference in the scheme of things, and any savings easily eroded by continual growth in consumption.
Well, in the affluent countries, it could affect the printers of periodicals and maybe newspapers if they're all offered online, or if you can go to the newsagency, download Wired or The Times via BlueTooth with an automatic transaction approved with a thumbprint. Who really want to struggle with huge broadsheet newspapers in the train. Good for publishers, not for printers.

Are we under the assumption that the Lion upgrade will be $29?
I haven't been around for a release past Snow Leopard so I'm not sure what to expect.
No. Normal price is around $129.

The original article, which makes a really great recommendation for Apple to remedy the absurdity of the review-process:
How about trying this: review after release for vetted developers. Once your first app has successfully made it through traditional review, you're marked as legit; subsequent upgrades and new releases go out without prior restraint, except in a few categories where Apple has to work within contract agreements (carrier restrictions on video or tethering, for example, or explicit sexual content). No more bug fixes waiting for weeks, no more wondering whether an innovative idea will ever see the light of day after spending months of effort and lots of money.

From Coverflow's website:
"We are pleased to announce that all CoverFlow technology and intellectual property was recently sold to Apple. It has been incorporated into the latest version of iTunes."
Nice, thank you :). I liked Coverflow's application, glad they incorporated it. To be honest, though, I thought it looked better as the previous app . . . .
