Giant marine life found in New Zealand's Antarctic waters

Picture shown the giant starfish found in the Ross Sea. Fisheries scientists who conducted the most comprehensive survey to date of New Zealand's Antarctic waters were surprised by the size of some specimens found, including jellyfish with 12-foot tentacles, 2-foot-wide starfish, large sea spiders and huge sea snails.

The survey was part of the International Polar Year program involving 23 countries in 11 voyages to survey marinelife and habitats around Antarctica. The program hopes to set benchmarks for determining the effects of global warming on Antarctica, researchers said.

Mystery figure pictured on Mars!!!

It is simply an optical illusion caused by a landscape??? Think about it!!!

Alien life: What seems to be a human-like Martian is pictured on Mars

This amazing photo of what looks remarkably like a female figure with her arm outstretched, was taken on Mars. The image was among many sent back to Earth by Spirit, Nasa's Mars explorer vehicle which landed there four years ago. Initial inspections revealed nothing unusual, but closer examination by amateur astronomers has thrown up this intriguing picture.

Space enthusiasts spent four years analysing this image, which on much closer inspection shows the 'alien'

The mystery image was captured by Nasa's explorer vehicle, Spirit

New species of salamander found in Costa Rica

This is probably one of the three new species of salamanderthat found in the pristine La Amistad National Park in Costa Rica. The colourful amphibians, cousins of the humble newt, were found during an expedition led by Dr Alex Monro, of the Natural History Museum, to the remote forest.

Meet Indohyus the ancestor of all whales!!!

Meet Indohyus, the prehistoric amphibious mammal that turned into a whale!!!

Scientists claim the deer- like aquatic mammal, which lived 48million years ago, moved into the sea to escape danger or to find food, and evolved into the giant sea mammal. Its legs changed into flippers and its fur became smooth skin.

The findings follow the discovery of remains of a racoon-sized creature called an Indohyus, in the Kashmir region of India. It forms the missing piece in the jigsaw linking whales to their land-living ancestors, according to scientists at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in the US.

The jaw and teeth structure of the Indohyus is said to be similar to that of a whale. Study of the fossil has also shown it spent a lot of time in the water when it had feet.

Giant rat found in a "Lost World" at Indonesia!!!

A giant rat which is five times the size of a normal rodent has been discovered by scientists. The cat-sized rats were found in the Foja mountains rainforest in eastern Papuaprovince in a June expedition, said U.S.-based Conservation International, which organized the trip along with the Indonesian Institute of Science.

"The giant rat is about five times the size of a typical city rat," said Kristofer Helgen, a scientist with the Smithsonian Institution in Washington. "With no fear of humans, it apparently came into the camp several times during the trip."

Awesome Northern Lights!!!

A band of Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights, stretches over the Chugach Range near Palmer, Alaska in this February file photo. Scientists think they have discovered the energy source of the spectacular color displays seen in the northern lights.

Fossils of tank-like mammal, Parapropalaehoplophorus septentrionalis, found in the Andes mountains

This artist's rendering shows Parapropalaehoplophorus septentrionalis, a newly discovered extinct armadillo relative that lived about 18 million years ago in South America.

Scientists searching for fossils high in the Andes mountains in Chile unearthed the remains of this tank-like mammalthat grazed on grasses 18 million years ago in South America. It was about 200 pounds (90 kg) and 2-1/2 feet long (76 cm).

It was a primitive member of a line of heavily armored mammals that culminated in the massive, impregnable Gyptodon, a two-tonne, 10-foot (3 meters) long beast covered in armored plates and a spiky tail that lived until 10,000 years ago.

The world's most advanced prosthetic arm!!!

Great news for amputees!!!
Amputees could soon be fitted with prosthetic limbs that enable them to regain their sense of touch, thanks to a break-through new bionic hand device.

"This work offers the possibility that an amputee may one day be able to feel with an artificial limb as though it was his own. Sensors could be placed in a prosthetic hand to measure contact forces and temperature, while a device could press or thermally stimulate the reinnervated skin to provide sensory feedback that appropriately correlates to hand perception."

The technique could soon be used to make artificial arms that can reproduce feeling, possibly within as little as two years.
