Not really sure why Apple can't bring themselves to put an i7 by default in a $2,000 machine. That's kind of ridiculous.
It annoys me too but it works out pretty well for Apple and I'd much rather pay extra for the i7 than not have the option at all. Look at the latest MBPs compared to the previous ones, Apple bumped the GPUs up significantly but charged $200 more and yet everyone is happy.

MacBook Air from late 2010 now boots standard with 64-bit Kernel and Extensions enabled!

I'm on a PPC but plan to go MacTel next year when Adobe releases Universal versions of Creative Suite. I have some questions about VMware & Parallels if you don't mind me adding it to the thread:
1. Do they require Windows partitions, and if so how much disk space is needed?
2. If a partition is needed, can you run the partition on an external drive so as to free up space on your internal? (I'll be using a MacBook Pro so that's why I ask).
3. Can anyone tell me anything about syncing a Palm device with Parallels or VMware? In particular I'm wondering how easily (if at all) I could sync my Treo with Windows apps as well as OS X apps. This would be huge to me.

1) Not a partition. The virtual Windows disk lives inside a file on the mac. If your Windows C: drive was 18GB stored on it the Mac OSX file will be 18GB.
OK with the current VMware produts you can use a real Windows partition if you want. Same with the Windws CD drive. You can map them to the real CD drive or to a disk image file. The default is to map the CD to the real CD and the C: disk to a disk image file (but you could map C: to a real disk if you want)

I work for GE and we are all Dell (unfortunately). Dell laptops, desktops, servers. Everybody gets Dell and nothing else. Can you imagine a company wide policy (300k workers). While the stuff breaks pretty quickly (my latitude laptop had cracks on it within 2 months of use), I was told that the enterprise service plans that Dell offers are unbeatable. The will swap stuff overnight and make sure you have something to work with. If Apple were to have a good service plan for enterprise, I think they will get more takers. Until then, Apple will be more popular with consumers and not enterprise.
Don't confuse Dell consumer service plans with enterprise. Enterprise is their bread and butter.

I wasn't expecting the iMac refresh so quick. I thought it would be after the Mac OS X Lion refresh. i been saving for my first iMac but not there yet so I'll have to still wait. Perhaps I'll wait till Mac OS X Lion is pre installed in late summer. That is if I can wait that long lol

I would be greatly interested in this. Likely would not buy the first generation. It would aso depend on size and actual features. Ive been greatly disappointed in the revamp of the apple tv and am looking for apple to do more for my living room than this past pathetic attempt at ATV2.

Here's a rumor I heard from next doors westie who knows a yorkie owned by an engineer at Apple. He said that incremental updates will happen to all Mac lines this year starting with the MBP.
Next year will see a major refresh of the Mac line probably starting with the MBP again for the Ivy Bridge release. Apple will have Ivy Bridge one month before PC OEM manufacturers get them. We will be blessed with USB3 and triple channel memory in desktop products.

Aside from the whole "personal responsibility" debate, why doesn't Apple just allow cancel/refund of purchases as long as it is done before the download is finished (meaning it's impossible to use)?
Seems like a no brainer to me.

Also Its early and Im not thiinking too clear..but you can go to your ACCOUNT and authorize whichever device you wanna allow to use your purchases. Of course I dont think this will help if you set up a new account for a gift, but you can GIVE apps to others. I apologize if my somnambulism has misread your intent. WOuldnt be the first time.

the mac platform is still the choice for the creative class. you won't find more than a handful of print designers using windows. adobe/macromedia sales figures show just about 50/50. creative pros don't care one whit about upgradeability. final cut pro is absolutely devastating the film market right now, eating away at the market share of avid solutions. these are all factual and verifiable.
No it is not and I dare you to prove me wrong! The majority of the creative class uses pcs period. Software titles like Autocad, 3d Studio Max, Rhino etc. don�t even exist for the mac. Your claims sound pretty much like Apples marketing, which tends to be over the top and pretty damn unrealistic. Also by creative class I obviously mean people like architects, interior designers, furniture designers, and people of fine arts and music. I have no idea what you mean by �print designers�, perhaps you would care to clarify?
as for your anecdotal evidence of your friends switching back, i'm sure that has happened. i can anecdotally tell you two of my colleagues have switched recently, buying not one, but two laptops each (15" and 17"). thing is my anecdotal evidence is just as useless as yours, all that counts are cold hard numbers and 4.6 is greater than 3.2. clearly mac market share is on the rise.
You call my personal experience �anecdotal evidence�? Perhaps you need a course in the English language? I would be more than happy to arrange an interview for you at the university of Brighton where I teach in post grad architecture. You could do one of the English courses and learn what the word �anecdotal� really means. As for the legitimacy of my claims you would only need to pay a visit to the UB Art and Design campus to see what once was a computer pool of 120 PowerMacs be filled with 120 brand new Gateway pcs.
